In the original version of the story, little mouse walks into the Lost & Found, but can only speak Russian. How will Mr and Mrs Frog figure out what the mouse is missing…? The majority of the text is in English with Russian words and phrases slipped in as the story progresses. Having a main character who only speaks Russian helps to build empathy and a positive attitude towards people who speak different languages.
The Fabulous Lost & Found and the Little Russian Mouse is an ideal story to share with young children being introduced to English or Russian for the first time. A list of the Russian and English words and phrases from the story are shown at the back of the book, together with their translations.
It would be useful if the parent, teacher or caregiver reading this story had some knowledge of Russian to be able to pronounce the Russian words correctly, although pronunciation guides are provided for the Russian words taught in the story.
