Overview

Young children have an amazing capacity for picking up new languages, and every parent is a natural-born language teacher. Play and Learn Spanish introduces a unique approach to getting kids started in Spanish that is as fun as it is easy.

This fantastic book features a selection of games, activites, songs and dialogue to help both you and your child to integrate Spanish into your everyday lives, just as a Spanish-speaking family would. From getting up in the morning and preparing the breakfast to playtime, shopping, days out, bathtime, bedtime and much more, this CD and book will teach you valuable vocabulary to use in your daily routine.

All of the phrases can be listened to on the included CD. An English translation is provided for every dialogue / song and an informative parents' guide is featured at the beginning of the book offering useful hints and tips for integrating the language into everyday life.

Guidance for Use

This CD and book pack is intended for use with children who are learning Spanish as a foreign language. Although it would probably be helpful for the parent to have a basic knowledge of the Spanish language, this is not essential as all of the dialogue is featured on the CD, read by a native Spanish speaker.

For use with all babies, toddlers and young children

A must for teaching your child Spanish
Friday, 11 September 2009  |

This is a great book for those who don’t know any Spanish but want to teach your children Spanish. I don’t know any Spanish myself, so at first I found the Spanish difficult. (Hence I awarded 4 star instead of 5). I just used to play the CD in the background so my child can get to hear spoken Spanish (as an alternative to Spanish songs). After a while I started recognizing phrases, which I found I could then use. The aspect that makes this a great book, is that the Spanish is functional – you can use the phrases in your daily activities, which is something I have still not found in other Spanish teaching books. So it’s great to be able to say to your child “What do you want for breakfast” or “Which skirt do you like” or “Put your shoes on” in Spanish.

Play and Learn Spanish

It's been a slow start, but finally my daughter has started to pick up and enjoy this book. I think that parents who are complete beginners might struggle with repeating and remembering the phrases. My almost 3yr old is very inquisitive and has started asking for the meaning of other objects in Spanish, so be prepared to walk with your dictionary. I'm lucky as I learnt Spanish (many moons ago) which is slowly starting to return so I can explain most things straight away. The CD has helped with reinforcing her knowledge and the songs, which I found rather obscure to begin with, she is starting to repeat and understand. I've been stunned at her quick progress, (though I do talk some Spanish with her everyday) so will definitely be persevering.
