Primary Languages Classroom Awards 2010

Primary Languages Classroom Awards

Do your pupils deserve a very special award this year?

The Primary Languages Classroom Awards 2010 are now open for entries! The awards, first launched in 2009, celebrate the work of not only the teacher but the class or wider community in the learning of a new language.

Categories and prizes

This year, the awards comprise five categories: French, German, Spanish, ‘Other' (a category designed to offer the broadest possible eligibility so that whatever foreign language a school has chosen to introduce, including community languages, it can be recognised and celebrated), and supporting EAL. A category winner will be chosen from each language from a short list and the overall winner selected from the winners of the five categories will win £1000 worth of resources for their school and a class trip to The Houses of Parliament in London to be presented with their award.

What makes a winner?

Enthusiasm, effectiveness and inclusiveness are all qualities that these Awards are looking to recognise, together with indications of the positive impact that learning a foreign language has had on the whole school community.

The exciting new award has the full backing and support of a number of key agencies including: EMAS UK, Manic Monkey, BESA, Affinity Media, Golden Daffodils, Little Linguist and Rafiki as well as representatives from the French and German Embassies, the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, The Association of Language Learners and Dr Lid King (National Director for Languages.).

Who can enter?

Teachers, children, extended schools and other community groups can enter the award. The entry criteria is very straightforward and simply asks the entrant to submit details on work that they have been doing as part of their programme - there is no need to do "something new" just for the award. Entries can be submitted in a format to suit including links to the school website, examples of pupil work or worksheets, communications from the local community, examples of presentations and video or photos.
